About Darren Hughes

Darren Hughes is a communications manager, web developer, occasional writer, and wannabe photographer in Knoxville, Tennessee. For nearly a decade he maintained a regularly updated blog (now archived) that focused mostly on film, literature, religion, politics, and other subjects ill-suited for polite conversation. He’s published a couple book chapters, several magazine articles, and a good number of essays on the web, but his writing has dropped off quite a bit over the past few years, owing mostly to his recent move to a little farm and the birth of his super-awesome daughter. (Also, he spends too much time on Facebook. Hence, his annoying tendency to write about himself in the third person.)
This new Tumblr blog isn’t actually that new, but I’ve decided to make it my primary outlet for the time being. I plan to continue adhering to the “long pauses” philosophy and aesthetic that originally inspired the site: at the risk of getting all idealistic (how passe, right?), I really do believe that choosing to be a citizen rather than a simple consumer is an essential, deliberate, and potentially-radical act.
